I spent more than 20 years confused about my own digestion.
So when a woman tells me, “I eat well. I've tried everything. I still don't get why I feel like this,” I get it. Not in a textbook way. In a lived-it way.
For over two decades, abdominal pain and bloating were just... part of my normal. I didn't know life any other way.
I saw doctors. Specialists. Had tests done. Tried different approaches, some more restrictive than others.
At times the pain got pretty bad.
And despite all that effort, all that searching, I still didn't really understand what my body actually needed.
Over the years I tried pretty much everything. Vegetarian. Vegan. Low-FODMAP. Low-histamine. No sugar. No dairy. Honestly, probably a few more diets I don't even remember at this point. At one stage I went to a clinic hoping someone would finally just tell me what to do. I walked out with a stack of paper and a restrictive food list, and not much else.
So I did what a lot of health-conscious women end up doing: I researched it myself. One website said one thing, the next said the opposite. Before long I was eating fewer and fewer foods, thinking about food constantly, and somehow still not feeling any better.
(To be clear, some of these approaches can genuinely help people, especially with the right professional support. For me, without that support, they mostly just made things feel more restrictive and more confusing.)
What changed for me
Eventually I started studying holistic nutrition, and I started asking a different question.
Not just, “Is this food healthy?”
But, “How does my body actually respond to it?”
I started paying attention to preparation, combinations, timing, the whole context around a meal, not just what was on the plate. I also got into Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, as a traditional way of thinking about food, seasonality, and your individual constitution.
And slowly, things started to change. My pain eased off, and eventually disappeared. The constant bloating followed not long after.
That's my story. I'd never promise it'll play out the same way for someone else, bodies just don't work like that. But it completely changed how I wanted to coach.
Why I coach differently
You’re not just a list of symptoms to me.
Digestion touches such personal parts of life. What you eat, what you wear, how relaxed you feel around people, how you travel, how much headspace you spend just thinking about your body.
I want to know the actual person behind all of it.
What do you eat, really? How’s it prepared? What does a normal workday look like for you? How do you sleep? What happens when you travel? What foods do you genuinely love? What changes could you actually pull off, realistically?
Because the “perfect” recommendation means nothing if it doesn’t fit your actual life.
My job isn’t to make you need me forever. It’s to help you spot your own patterns and hand you tools you can use long after we’ve stopped working together.
